Intense or Intense+: Which edition is right for you?

The Intense Edition is the foundation of the line—available in 50mm, 60mm, and 70mm. Its extremely finely textured surface produces long-lasting mid and low frequencies when rubbed, enveloping your entire session like a sound bath. The Intense Edition+ takes it a step further: a new material in the handle makes playing even more precise and controllable, and the frequencies resonate even longer. For everyone who wants to get the most out of their gong.

If you're new to grater boards, start with the Intense Edition. If you already have experience and are looking for even more control, go for the Intense+.

What makes the Intense Line sound so special?

The secret lies in the material and the surface. The caoutchouc used in the Intense Line reacts differently to the gong’s surface than pure natural caoutchouc the contact is finer and more direct, resulting in longer, more precise vibrations. The extremely finely textured surface enhances this effect: less jerking, smoother gliding, and more sound per movement.

The result is a friction mallet that penetrates particularly well into the low and mid-frequency ranges of a gong.

The three sizes: 50 mm, 60 mm, 70 mm

The size of the beater head determines which frequencies you’ll primarily target. The 50mm is the most precise of the three—ideal for precise sound shaping and finer pitch control. The 60mm is the most versatile—it targets mid-range frequencies and is suitable for most gong sizes. The 70mm is the deepest—it produces the richest, most melodic sounds and is particularly at home on large gongs.

To get started, we recommend the 60mm—it’s the most forgiving and sounds great on almost any gong.

The Intense Line is handcrafted in Germany. The black plastic handle, with a diameter of 6–8 mm, fits securely in the hand and allows for precise control across the gong’s surface. Small irregularities in the textured surface are not defects—they are the natural result of handcrafted work and make each friction mallet .
