What makes the new Tie Dye Edition gong driver from Olli Hess so special?

Always breaking new ground is the basic principle of Olli Hess. The world of sound is multifaceted - and we want to explore and use it in all its facets. In order to continuously expand our range and give you an even wider spectrum of sounds, we try out a lot and change our manufacturing processes and materials. the friction mallet Tie Dye Edition not only stands out visually from other gong drivers - its sound in particular will surprise you with new facets and even more variety. We have achieved this through an innovative manufacturing method based on thoughtful and careful craftsmanship.

The extravagant design

The batik look of the Tie Dye Edition friction mallet symbolizes uniqueness and individuality. We handcraft each Tie Dye Edition friction mallet, ensuring that every friction mallet features a unique batik pattern, making it truly one-of-a-kind. This makes every Olli Hess Tie Dye Edition friction mallet a unique piece – you choose whether you prefer the blue-green batik pattern or the black-grey version. This way, you receive a friction mallet that truly matches your individuality.

An extraordinary sound image

With the Tie Dye Edition friction mallet, we are not only exploring new visual paths, but the sound spectrum you can create with our friction mallet has also been transformed by a new processing method. For the head of the friction mallet, we use soft natural caoutchouc, a particularly sustainable material that is biologically in harmony with the environment. We intentionally avoid roughening the ball of this friction mallet with our tools. The smooth surface of the ollihess Tie Dye Edition friction mallet thus allows for exceptionally beautiful and intense tones, which can range from bright and clear to deep and dark sounds, depending on the instrument and how it's used. Simultaneously, any self-generated noises from the mallet are almost entirely eliminated.

A different kind of production

Our ollihess friction mallet with a batik look is made using a unique process developed by us, which sets it apart from other friction mallets. During the manufacturing process, we use pre-dyed natural caoutchouc. This is naturally blended through careful rolling, giving it its uniform coloring. Afterwards, we take small, square pieces from the rolled mass and stack them in the baking mold. There, they fuse in the oven, creating the extraordinary batik look. For the Tie Dye Edition friction mallet, we also rely on environmentally friendly and sustainable raw materials. Every ollihess friction mallet is completely vegan. All raw materials come from renewable sources and are preferably grown regionally. We make no compromises with the Tie Dye Edition friction mallet either. Not with the head, not with the handle.
