Which ollihess Gong Mallet should I buy online?
With the right mallet, you can bring out the greatest variety of sounds from your gong. As a general rule, the larger the gong, the larger the mallet should be. Of course, your individual needs and the type of gong also play a role in choosing a gong mallet. Depending on the length of the mallet, the size of its head, and its dampening, the sounds you can produce on your gong with the mallet will vary. Therefore, the choice depends not only on the characteristics of your sound instrument but also on the tones you wish to create with the gong mallet.
Here's how our gong mallets differ in design and materials:
- Head size
- Handle length
- Head dampening and core size
- Materials in the core and/or dampening
- Interaction between head and handle
- Weight
- Color

Ergonomic handle of our Gong Mallets
The feel and shape of the mallet handle are crucial for your sound experience. When playing with ollihess gong mallets, you always maintain full control: The slightly thickened end of the mallet shaft ensures that the mallet doesn't easily slip from your hand while playing. Simply by feel, you know where you are holding the mallet, allowing you to fully concentrate on your sound practice.
The wood for our gong mallets comes from beech and fits comfortably in your hand. This is also due to the organic wax we use to treat all our mallet handles. Like every part of our gong mallets, the wooden shaft is sustainably produced from regional materials.
Furthermore, the length of the shaft plays a crucial role in the design of our mallets: It is always perfectly matched to the respective head and its weight. This creates an optimal balance between both ends of the mallet.
The core and insulation of our gong mallets ensure minimal impact noise
A great deal of work also goes into the heads of our mallets – all with the goal of creating the most beautiful sound experience for you.
We have almost completely eliminated the annoying striking noise that so often occurs during sound practice. The materials used in the mallet head are particularly finely tuned and durable. Thanks to this composition, the meditative and calming sound of the gong can fully unfold, and there are no disturbing background noises during sound meditations or sound journeys. Your listeners can therefore fully immerse themselves in the experience.
We always carefully select our materials, test them for many years, and continuously develop them further. The core of the mallet head, in particular, differs significantly from other products available on the market. It consists of a soft natural caoutchouc and is individually developed for each mallet in our range. The mallet core is often also covered with a felt inlay, which is also adapted to each model and serves to further dampen the striking noise.
The fabric covering of the gong mallets is made from an extra soft and sustainable wellness fleece. It is treated with a special process to prevent scratches when playing the gong.
Cylinder or Sphere – which head shape suits you?
The shape of the mallet head significantly influences the sound you create on your gong. A cylindrical head has a more even weight distribution and ensures a more precise response. A spherical head, on the other hand, produces a softer, more voluminous sound with a broader sound development. Cylindrical mallet heads are particularly suitable if you aim for powerful impulses and a broad striking surface. If you prefer direct, delicate tones and flexible, dynamic playing, then mallets with a spherical head are the ideal choice. Both shapes have their individual characteristics – so the choice depends entirely on your playing style and the desired sound nuances.
Sustainable and fair production of our mallets
Each ollihess gong mallet is unique. It is carefully handcrafted in Germany. From the beginning, we consciously decided against assembly line production and instead rely on family-run businesses and regional materials. We are convinced that a conscious approach to resources and our environment directly impacts the sound experience with our mallets.
Buy ollihess Vegan Gong Mallets
We have already taken another step towards even more sustainable production: Almost all our gong mallets are completely vegan. And we still have big plans! We work every day on our vision to enable you the widest sound spectrum – always in harmony with our environment. We will also soon expand our vegan range with more mallet models.
Difference between gong mallets and reamers
Often, friction mallets and mallets are considered the same: In the eyes of a layperson, both are used to play a gong. However, there is much more to it: A friction mallet – also called a friction mallet – is, as the name suggests, rubbed against the gong. This causes the gong to vibrate and unfold a long-lasting sound. With the gong mallet, on the other hand, the gong is struck. The tones produced are therefore more vibrant.
In addition, there are also felt mallets or rubber mallets, which bring different properties. Our Professional Gong Mallet J.O-70, for example, has a white felt ball at one end of the shaft, which can be used to create sounds on both the gong and the singing bowl.

Some of our mallets are also suitable for playing singing bowls or other sound instruments. Here too, it depends on which instrument you specifically own and what sounds you wish to create. For example, the Professional Gong Mallet move line edition is very well suited for use on larger singing bowls, such as the joint bowl. You can find out which other mallets are suitable for use with singing bowls, chimes, or even drums in the detailed product descriptions.
